FIELD GUIDE

How DarkFeed works

DarkFeed separates community leads, sourced research and the permanent record. Nothing becomes a published fact simply because it was submitted or discussed.

START A LEAD

Suggest a new case

There is not a one-click “publish a case” button for members. A new File starts as a case suggestion: DarkFeed safely reads the linked public source and uses AI to create an unpublished, source-bound editorial draft.

  1. 1
Sign in, then open Suggest a case or send research.

Choose Suggest a new File / case. Leave the case ID empty when it is not already a DarkFeed File.

  2. 2
Give it a precise title and short factual summary.

Say what happened, where and when if known. Separate what the source establishes from questions you still have.

  3. 3
Add the original public source URL.

A direct article, official statement, court record or reputable report makes review substantially quicker.

  4. 4
Submit it to build a review draft.

DarkFeed reads only the supplied public page, then creates an unpublished draft for an editor. You can see its progress and any review note on the same contribution page.

SOURCE FIRST

Can I link an article?

Yes. The contribution form accepts an original source URL, and investigation threads have a dedicated Source type. In an active investigation you can also add a source to a thread’s evidence pile or link it from a room card.

For a new or unlisted case

Submit the article URL with a case suggestion. DarkFeed uses its safe source reader and AI to prepare a source-bound, unpublished review draft. It does not publish a File or treat AI output as evidence.

For an existing active File

Open the File’s Investigation area, choose Contribute, select Source, explain why it matters and include the URL. DarkFeed checks for close matches before you post.

AUTOMATION, EXPLAINED

Does DarkFeed “dig” for more information?

It helps with discovery, but it does not turn a single article into an unchecked published case. The systems have distinct jobs:

Duplicate checks

When you add an investigation thread, DarkFeed looks for close existing threads. An optional AI meaning check compares a bounded excerpt with recent public threads. It suggests overlap; it never decides truth or blocks a distinct contribution.

Hourly news discovery

Configured current-news providers run hourly and create discovery candidates for the editorial desk. Editors decide whether a candidate becomes a draft and whether it belongs in a live investigation or the historical archive.

Live monitoring

Editors can enable monitoring for selected Files and sources at an appropriate interval. It checks the configured source set for changes; it is not an unrestricted crawler of every article or website.

AI assistance

A suggested case with a source link can create a draft from that one fetched page. DarkFeed does not use model knowledge or unrestricted web searches to fill gaps; its output is not evidence, does not overwrite a published File and always needs human review.

THE REVIEW PATH

What happens after I submit?

SubmittedYour contribution is stored with its source trail and is visible in Your submissions. A source-linked case suggestion queues the draft builder.
Editorial reviewAn editor checks the AI draft for relevance, duplicates, sourcing, safety and whether the information belongs in a File, an update, an investigation or nowhere public.
OutcomeThe team can use it to create a draft, add context to a File, ask for clearer sourcing, or decline it. Public publication is a separate editorial decision.

WORK WITH OTHERS

Investigation rooms and boards

Some active Files have a community research room. Join the room to add a source-led card, connect related material, discuss it in chat and vote or raise a challenge. Cards move through review states; the permanent File is not silently changed by the board.

If the Investigations page looks quiet, that means there are currently no public active threads or opened rooms—not that the site is missing a submission path. You can still suggest a new case or source.

KEEP IT USEFUL

Research safely and fairly

  • Link public, checkable material and say what it establishes.
  • Label theory, uncertainty and unanswered questions as such.
  • Do not post private addresses, contact details, personal data or material that could identify or endanger someone.
  • Do not treat AI output, a vote total or a repeated claim as proof.

For the complete policy, read the editorial standards.
